Curcuma longa — ขมิ้นชัน in Thai — is the rhizome behind both the culinary spice and the curcuminoid extract category. 'Turmeric' usually refers to the whole dried rhizome or its powder; 'curcumin' refers to the concentrated curcuminoid fraction, typically 95% curcuminoids by specification.

The real problem is absorption

Curcumin is poorly water-soluble, rapidly metabolised and poorly absorbed in its native form.
