What marigold lutein is
Nearly all commercial lutein is extracted from the petals of Tagetes erecta, the African or Aztec marigold — ดาวเรือง in Thai, and a familiar temple and festival flower across Thailand. Petals are dried and pelleted, then extracted to an oleoresin rich in lutein esters.
Where the value sits
Lutein exists in petals as fatty-acid esters. Whether an ingredient is sold as ester or as saponified free lutein — and at what purity — sets both its price and its permitted applications. Eye-health positioning also depends on the lutein-to-zeaxanthin ratio, which the market has largely standardised around research-referenced proportions.

Sourcing reality
